THOUGH HE WAS RICH HE BECAME POOR
So the bible says it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven. Do you still want to be rich?
THOUGH HE WAS RICH HE BECAME POOR
2 Corinthians 8:9 Ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
In an age of greed, materialism, and selfishness, it is refreshing to reflect on the great sacrifice Jesus has made so that we can be blessed.
Read
For those who don’t know, the bible records the story of Jesus even before he came to earth (2 Corinthians 8:9). The Old Testament predicted his coming (Deuteronomy 18:15 Isaiah 7:14 9:6-7 Micah 5:2). The New Testament is a record of his birth, life, death, burial, and resurrection (Matthew 1:18-23 John 5:37-39 1 Corinthians 15:1-4). To be saved, one must not only hear about Jesus but also obey him (Hebrews 5:8-9 2 Thessalonians 1:6-9 Colossians 1:23).
Rich
One of the things we should know about Jesus is that he was rich (2 Corinthians 8:9). While that may not be appealing to some, it points to the grace of Jesus (Ephesians 1:7 2:7 Romans 16:24). Being God, Jesus owns everything (Psalms 24:1 50:10 Philippians 4:19). Not only is he rich, he is also kind, a wonderful combination (Proverbs 22:16 James 2:6 Matthew 8:1-3).
Role
To understand the grace of Jesus one must first accept that he was God (John 1:1 14 5:18 20:28). Paul explained that Jesus became a man, a humble servant (Philippians 2:5-8). He came as a poor baby who had no room, no bed, and no clothes (Luke 2:7 9:58 19:5). He came to experience our pain and to be our perfect example (Hebrews 4:14-16 1 Peter 2:21).
Reap
What was the purpose of Jesus’ sacrifice? He wanted to make us rich (2 Corinthians 8:9). Material wealth is not considered (Acts 3:6). The rich will find it more difficult to enter heaven (Matthew 19:22-24 1 Timothy 6:6-11). Jesus wants us to be rich in faith (James 2:5). He wants us to live as having nothing yet possessing all things (2 Corinthians 6:10).
