MY GREATEST JOY
There are many things from which we can find joy. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
MY GREATEST JOY
3 John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth
No parent finds joy in the news that their children are in trouble. There is, however, deep satisfaction and pride when your children conduct themselves well.
State
John wished that his children would prosper both physically and spiritually (3 John 1:2). He rejoiced greatly (3 John 1:3-4). God wants us to have joy even when we face the challenges of life (James 1:3-4, Romans 5:3, Philippians 4:4). After being beaten, Peter rejoiced that he was able to suffer as a Christian (Acts 5:40-42, 1 Peter 4:16). Later, Paul and Silas sang while in prison (Acts 16:25).
Source
Why was John so happy? The brethren had testified that his son Gaius was walking in the truth 3 John 1:3-4. It is said that no news is good news. Of course, this is totally incorrect. There has always been good news regarding the salvation of man (Isaiah 9:6-7, 2 Peter 3:9, 1 Timothy 2:4). Let us not focus on the negative things coming out of the media (Philippians 4:8, Colossians 3:1-2).
Saints
We ought to rejoice that our children are walking in the truth (3 John 1:3-4). Children are not necessarily biological (1 Timothy 1:2). Christians are children of God (Galatians 3:26-28, Romans 8:15-17). We share what Peter calls “like precious faith” (2 Peter 1:1). Sometimes our children go astray because of our own failures (1 Samuel 3:12-13, Proverbs 22:6). Let us confess our sins and repent (James 5:16, Acts 8:22).
Start
John rejoiced because his children were walking in the truth (3 John 1:3-4). To walk in the truth is to walk according to the word of God (John 17:17). There are many false philosophies in the world (2 Peter 2:1-3, 1 John 3:1). Satan is using social media and many other devices to take away our children (1 Timothy 4:1-3 2 Corinthians 2:11). Start Walking.
