DO YOU DESPITE THE SPIRIT OF GRACE?
Neglecting worship is an insult to the Holy Spirit. It is a reflection of your attitude to Jesus and his church, but worse, it comes with divine Judgment.
DO YOU DESPITE THE SPIRIT OF GRACE?
Hebrews 10:29Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â and hath done despite to the spirit of grace
It appears that more people feel free to express their disregard of all things sacred, the Holy Spirit is no exception. What is your attitude to the Holy Spirit?
Meaning
From the context, one can deduce that the word despite means to disrespect. First, the Hebrew Writer used the word despise, then he speaks of trodden under foot Jesus and counting the blood of the covenant an unholy thing (Hebrews 10:28 29). God wants us to be respectful to all (1 Peter 2:17).
Master
This disrespect is directed to the suffering Savior (Isaiah 53:1-5). Although Jesus has done so much to save our souls from damnation, he was rejected by men (John 1:10 11 12:48 Hebrews 10:29). Cruel men tortured, mocked, and eventually crucified him (Matthew 26:28-31 Acts 2:23). All of this is doing despite to the spirit of grace. But it is a dangerous thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:30 31).
Moment
At what point do we insult the Holy Spirit? A closer look at the Hebrews reveals they were forsaking the assembly, sinning willfully, and returning to Judaism (Hebrews 10:25 26 38 39). Today, many have no interest in worship, have lived a life of worldly pleasure, and have gone back into the world (Psalms 122:1 Luke 10:40 8:11-15).
Message
Instead of drawing back from God, we should draw near with a true heart, hold fast to the faith and consider each other (Hebrews 10:22-24). We need not follow the example of those who have a habit of missing worship (Hebrews 10:25). Let us remember that there is a coming judgment (Hebrews 10:27-31 Acts 17:30 31 Revelations 20:10-15).
